Sofia

Sofia is a 9 year-old aspiring actress from Brazil, with fluency in both Portuguese and English. She and her family now reside in Tampa, Florida, where they're connected with @gigisplayhousetampa, a community center for individuals with Down syndrome.

When not with friends and family, Sofia is usually practicing her swimming skills, dancing, or exercising outside. She's taken a "great interest" in Olympic gymnastics, her mother Iris says.

At home, Sofia likes to choreograph dances, practice acting, play with her dolls, and read books like "Amelia Bedelia." Favorite movies include "Frozen," "Moana," and "Descendants" 1, 2, and 3. She dreams of being an actress like Jojo Siwa, and we know she can be! Many people with Down syndrome have built successful acting careers, and these actors and actresses will only continue to grow in number as Hollywood becomes more inclusive.

Iris believes that anything is possible for Sofia. To expectant parents of a child with Down syndrome, she says, "Take your eyes off the limitations and invest in the myriad possibilities and capabilities. Respect each other's time, and believe: We are all capable!"

She adds that "To love what is different is to love yourself." We 100% agree! We hope that the world will continue to realize that "different" is a superpower. You're amazing, Sofia!
