Jenny

Jenny, 34, is a multi-talented musician and is part of a mother-daughter music duo. Nancy and Jenny are pictured here performing a xylophone and piano duet while at the @ncdsalliance 2019 Triangle Buddy Walk.

Nancy told us a little bit about her story: "Jenny has always loved music. She learned to crawl by trying to get to her sister’s room when she heard music playing. When she was six years old, she started learning to read music and learned a few simple songs on piano.

In sixth grade, Jenny wanted to join the middle school band and play orchestral bells. The teachers didn’t think she could do it, so they said, 'She can try for a few months, but if she can’t keep up, she will have to drop out.' With regular practice, Jenny proved that she could not only keep up, but she performed in every performance and competition that the bands had in middle school and high school, and the bands earned mostly superior ratings! Jenny also learned to play marimba, xylophone, the bass drum, chimes, and more in the front ensemble in high school.

After high school, Jenny and I wanted her to continue with music. I began looking for music scores we could play together as a duet. Since it’s not easy to find music written for orchestral bells and piano, I arrange much of our music.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jenny and I have been performing together for several years, playing for a variety of events. Our repertoire [of song genres] includes patriotic, classical, Disney songs, rock, Christian, Christmas, and more. We enjoy practicing and learning new songs! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few of Jenny’s favorite performances have been the opening act for the 30-piece orchestra in "Berlin Brothers Christmas Show" with an audience of over 150 people, Duke Hospital’s “Concert Series”, weddings, parties, and receptions at the governor's mansion. Jenny and I want to play music together throughout our lives." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
